2010 Hyundai Genesis Coupe with the 3.8-liter V-6 engine and track pack. Besides the new navigation system, the main difference with this car was that it had the optional six-speed automatic transmission, as opposed to the six-speed manual on the previous review car. As equipped, our new review car is the most expensive Hyundai Genesis Coupe you can buy, but at a little over 32 grand, it’s a low price for a fast car loaded with tech.

The 2010 Hyundai Genesis Coupe 3.8-liter V-6 powering the car uses a dual continuously variable valve timing system along with a variable intake system to optimize efficiency for low and high engine speeds. That gets it 306 horsepower and 266 pound-feet of torque, and should be good for about 5.5 seconds to 60 mph.

EPA fuel economy for the Genesis Coupe 3.8 with the automatic transmission is 17 mpg city and 27 mpg highway. Our average for a mix of driving came in at around 20.2 mpg, although in strictly freeway and highway driving we saw the average fuel economy rise above 25 mpg.

2010 Hyundai Genesis Coupe 3.8 Track offers a lot of performance for a little money, but you’ll have to live with an economy car interior. For cabin electronics, it offers high-quality navigation, Bluetooth, and stereo systems, but no bells and whistles beyond those essential features. Performance is impressive, although Hyundai could probably squeeze a little more power out of the engine.

The touch screen measures 6.5 inches diagonally, making it larger than most portable units, but smaller than some of the latest systems, including the nine-inch unit offered by Ford. While the Sedan’s nav system offers real time traffic data, it doesn’t have the ability to automatically re-route around blockages. The Coupe, on the other hand, can detect traffic on the current route, offer a detour and then reroute if the driver chooses.

Opting for the nav system also provides integrated Bluetooth functionality, making phone calls and wireless audio streaming a breeze. When a phone is paired and you look up a point of interest in the directory, if an associated phone number is provided you can simply tap the number on screen and it dials automatically. Furthermore, the Hyundai system is equipped with AD2P technology, meaning you can stream music from any Bluetooth-equipped MP3 player or phone without having to plug in.

The new navigation system is priced at $1,000 which while more expensive than most third party portable units is still about half of what most factory in-dash units cost. After the Coupe is available with navigation, Hyundai will begin offering the same touch-screen system as a lower cost stand-alone option in the Sedan. Currently, Hyundai only offers sat-nav as part of the $4,000 technology package, which also includes adaptive lighting, the multi-media controller and heated and cooled seats, among a host of other items.

Suzuki Swift plug-in hybrid is a competent subcompact that the Japanese marque sells both in Japan and Europe. In the latter, the little hatchback is available with a solid 1.3-liter diesel dubbed DDIS.Suzuki Swift plug-in hybrid uses a 660 cc engine, probably sourced from a kei car. The engine charges the lithium-ion batteries, which are placed between the front seats – we suspect they extend into the middle of the rear seat as well. The batteries power a 54 kW motor that moves the front wheels.

Suzuki Swift plug-in hybrid is powered by a battery that’s charged from a household mains socket. When the battery runs low, an engine of a kind usually used in minivehicles powers a generator that charges the battery. This means the Swift Plug-in Hybrid not only meets the needs of the many people who drive no more than 20km each day but also saves users from worrying about being stranded or having to search for a charging stand if the battery runs low.

Suzuki Swift plug-in hybrid is still a concept and so the Japanese automaker has added certain features to distinguish it from the standard-powered production model. These include a new set of headlights and wheels for the exterior. On the inside, the Swift plug-in hybrid comes with its own cabin trim which also features lightweight seats for the driver and front passenger done in a ‘web-design’ material finish.

Aston Martin Rapide has moved into the final stages of its development programme, on course for a public debut in late 2009, with the first customer cars due to be delivered in early 2010.Aston Martin Rapide will offer performance purity and the same level of sporting ability as all modern Aston Martins. Powered by a version of Aston Martin’s 6.0 litre V12 engine producing 470bhp and 600Nm of torque and, hand built at the company’s engine facility in Cologne, the Rapide’s rear wheels are driven through a highly responsive Touchtronic gearbox. Performance figures have yet to be revealed, although early indications are that the Rapide will offer class-leading performance and dynamics, alongside new levels of refinement and luxury.

Aston Martin Rapide will be built at a new production facility in Graz, Austria managed by the acclaimed vehicle manufacturer Magna Steyr and co-ordinated by a fully integrated Aston Martin team from the UK. The new production facility is closely modelled on the Gaydon factory and will combine a sophisticated modern production line with the Aston Martin traditional hand-finishing skills, a proud blend of craft processes and attention to detail. The interior will further develop Aston Martin’s skilful use of genuine high quality materials, applied appropriately and effectively to ensure that form always follows function.

Aston Martin has released a simply stunning video of the Rapide in various stages of development, from the skid pad to the Nurburgring, kicking off with a 50 second montage with just enough Rapide to keep us interested, then another 30 seconds in the garage.

Aston Martin Rapide will also borrow its twelve-cylinder powerplant from the DB9, although power will be increased from 450 horsepower to 470. With that power routed through a six-speed transmission — featuring Aston Martin’s Touchtronic control — the Rapide should make the sprint from zero to 60 mph in under five seconds, on its way to a top speed of 180 mph.Expect to see the Aston Martin Rapide to hit the market sometime during 2010, with a price tag in the $200,000 range.

2010 Fiat 500 Abarth SS will start building at Toluca, Mexico plant in late 2010 or early 2011 according to AW’s supplier source. Of the 100,000 units Chrysler plans to build in Mexico, one-third are expected to go to Brazil, who has a free trade pact with Mexico, and as production ramps up, Chrysler is expected to offer the entire 500 lineup eventually. That means we stand a good shot at seeing the hatchback, convertible, wagon and Abarth versions here in the Colonies.

That could be because Paulin is Swedish, and Scandinavians know a little something about curvy bodies. The shape is an odd blend of Euro panache with American muscle that somehow works really well in person.

2010 Devon GTX is more of a super GT than an all-out supercar. That it happens to offer performance on par with those track-oriented supercars is almost an afterthought. In that way, it’s a bit like the Bugatti Veyron – a visually polarizing bit of design that happens to be blindingly fast. The overall look is striking and sophisticated, with unique cues that help differentiate it from the pack. Although individual elements can be picked apart, the overall package is modern and tasteful and successfully translates Paulin’s personal dream car sketches into reality. These were sketches he did while working at Ford of Europe, doodles he did while designing the C-Max among other things.

The interior continues the theme with modern touches on a classic and tasteful design. It has a certain retro feel with simple aluminum surrounds breaking up the dark leather fields. The leather-swathed carbon-fiber seats are splendid and wouldn’t look out of place in a museum. The McIntosh stereo system is a great touch too, but we think the 200-pound(!) amp behind the seats should be jettisoned as part of the race package.

The steering wheel and LCD gauge cluster have garnered their fair share of criticism, but they are just for these pre-production prototypes, as the cars needed something to fulfill those duties during testing. While the final design of these features hasn’t been nailed down, the rest of the interior packaging suggests that the Devon team will choose wisely. Naturally, we took the opportunity to lobby for proper analog gauges and got sage nods in return. The iPhone-like black console is also slated for a makeover, but one thing that will definitely stay is that big, meaty shifter.

The McLaren F1 leaps to mind. And let’s be honest, it seems you need to have some kind of non-traditional doors these days if you want to get noticed in the crowded field of exotics. They go a long way toward separating this from off-the-rack sports cars like a Corvette or a Viper. They aren’t very practical, however.

2010 Devon GTX engine gets a bump from 600 hp to 650, and curb weight drops to around 3,000 pounds thanks in large part to the totally carbon fiber superstructure. About that – the quality of the carbon fiber work is amazing. That superstructure eliminates any of the squeaks and rattles that you’d find in a Viper and makes the car feel more like a Mercedes SLR McLaren than anything else. It might be too soon to suggest the SLR (or upcoming SLS) as a direct competitor, but that’s how good this car feels. The structure feels so stiff but the suspension keeps the ride from being too harsh. And this was in the car with the standard suspension, not the new one being developed with help from the military.

2010 Devon GTX is set to start in March of next year with an MSRP of $500,000. That’s a lot of coin for an unproven name, but we think they have a pretty good chance at success. The workmanship looks top notch, the performance should put the GTX in the same league as cars costing at least as much, and they only plan to move 36 cars a year. That’s fewer cars than Bugatti produces annually. The company has already had serious inquiries from a number of interested customers, including professional athletes and celebrities, and we suppose many more will join the list when the car gets fully sorted and returns to the track. Even though it doesn’t quite match the luxury and sophistication of the benchmark Ferrari 599 at this point, it does have a lot of unique features, including bold and elegant styling, world-class performance and the appeal of being All-American.

Mitsuoka Orochi will spearhead charge into China. The company plans to display the car at next year’s Beijing Auto Show, and to open dealerships in Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou. We know the Chinese have occasionally fascinating taste in car design, but we can’t wait to see how they receive the Orochi. Mitsuoka wants to move 35 units in its first year, and as if its looks weren’t queer enough, the car is expected to cost 50% more in China than it does in Japan, where it will already set you back ¥9,345,000 ($87,287 USD).

Infiniti G37 Anniversary Art Project Vehicle at the 14th Annual Canadian Art Gallery Hop Gala in Toronto. To commemorate Infiniti’s 20th anniversary, Infiniti Canada partnered with Cirque du Soleil to create a one-of-a-kind G37 Sport Coupe. Montreal artist Heidi Taillefer created the design and spent almost one month hand-painting the exterior of the vehicle.

“Celebrating 20 years of Infiniti is an important milestone and we wanted to do something truly unique and representative of the Infiniti brand to commemorate this occasion,” said Wendy Durward, Director of Infiniti Canada. “The intricate, beautiful design is an expression of Infiniti’s commitment to Inspired Performance in everything we do.”

Infiniti’s partner and inspiration for the G Coupe Anniversary design concept, Cirque du Soleil, is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year and was also present at the unveiling.

“Both Infiniti and Cirque du Soleil are celebrating important anniversaries this year and it was incredible to be able to collaborate on a unique and special project such as this,” said Ryan Sandilands, Corporate Alliances Senior Director with Cirque du Soleil. “Guests at some upcoming Cirque du Soleil shows in Canada will be able to see this truly incredible vehicle for themselves as it will be displayed at select shows.”

Heidi Taillefer was one of several artists asked to submit a design concept for the exterior of the Infiniti G Coupe. No structural changes could be made so the car could remain safe and driveable, and able to be auctioned off for charity at a later date. Heidi’s inspired design “Ligozzi” was ultimately selected and she spent much of August and early September painting the vehicle.

“I was very excited to be asked to participate in this project and using the G Coupe as a canvas has been an amazing challenge, “said Taillefer. “With Cirque as inspiration, there was a freedom to explore unique, juxtaposing influences for the design. I’m very proud of how my design looks on the actual vehicle, and I think it’s an incredible tribute to the anniversary ofd both Infiniti and Cirque du Soleil.”

The Anniversary Vehicle will be on tour at various Cirque du Soleil shows and other events over the coming months. The car will eventually be auctioned off for charity. For more information please visit www.infiniti.ca.

2010 Seat Leon Cupra R 265 PS direct injection 2.0 TSI engine is the star of the show boasting not only tremendous power, but also easy torque transmission and remarkable flexibility. Among the four cylinder 16V unit’s key features is a new, high-pressure fuel pump injector to satisfy its greater performance demands while also allowing it to fully comply with strict EU5 emissions standards.

2010 Seat Leon Cupra R is capable of prodigious performance. The zero to 62 mph time, for instance, is a formidable 6.1 seconds, while the top speed of 155 mph is comfortably adequate. All this, and yet the new SEAT’s combined fuel consumption figure is put at just a shade under 35 mpg.Inside and out, the exclusive nature of the Spanish maker’s new model is obvious to the enthusiast thanks to the distinctive letter ‘R’ on the central grille and at the lower right of the hatch. The all-important initial also appears inside, on the right instrument dial and the remote control key. Meanwhile, the exclusive Cupra logo graces the front bumper, the centre of the hatch and, inside, the steering wheel and seat backrests.

Further distinctive detailing which underlines the Cupra R’s extreme nature includes arch-filling 19-inch, five double-spoke alloys shod with ultra-low profile 235/35 tyres. The wheel assembly also enables a set of generous 17-inch 345 x 30 mm front disc brakes with 16-inch 286 x 12 mm at the rear, uprated to deliver the greater braking capacity obviously required to keep that 265 PS safely in check. The interior features eye-catching competition-styled bucket seats in grey alcantara upholstery, white LED lighting on the instrument dials, a leather-clad multi-functional steering wheel and sporty aluminium-trimmed pedals.

In its home market, the latest Leon’s extensive line-up of standard equipment includes ABS + TCS, ESP + EBA, XDS (SEAT’s new electronic system which mimics the function of a limited slip differential), front and front side airbags, curtain airbags, passenger airbag disconnection, rear window seat Isofix anchoring points, low tyre pressure warning, light and rain sensors, rear parking sensors, cruise control, trip computer, cornering fog lights, dual zone climate control and MP3-compatible eight-speaker CD/radio.
