New Cars – Nissan EV-11 prototype Picture
New Cars – Nissan EV-11 prototype is showing off its latest-generation prototype. The company’s previous iteration was based on the original Cube, but the new test units are based on the Versa/Tiida. A 108-horsepower / 206 pound-feet electric motor designed in-house at Nissan drives the front wheels, while a lithium ion battery pack created by Automotive Energy Supply Corp. stores electricity. The 24 kWh pack is fitted under the floor and is expected to yield a 100-mile range.

U.S. diesel fortunes dim as word comes that Nissan may scrap Maxima oil burner Picture
If you were to query Autoblog staffers and many savvy enthusiasts for what they wanted in a car, you’d swear that perhaps 70% of America’s auto market would shortly be composed of rear-drive turbodiesel station wagons and hatchbacks. Sadly, the theoretical popularity of such vehicles rarely translates to sales out in the buying public, so such offerings are few and far between. Diesel fuel, in particular, has enjoyed a wave of positive U.S. enthusiast publicity, what with its torquetastic nature and noise, vibration, and harshness improvements.
Yet not only are there precious few diesel cars and trucks available, in these lean times, automakers are threatening to pull back from already announced future product commitments. Acura is widely believed to be delaying and/or killing d plans for a derv TSX and earlier this month General Motors put its promising 4.5-liter V8 on ice. Now, Edmunds AutoObserver is reporting that Nissan my delay or scrap its previously announced Maxima diesel model. Thankfully, at least the Europeans seem to be moving forward with their diesel initiatives, with the Volkswagen Jetta TDI selling well, the thoroughly wonderful BMW 335d coming on stream, and future offerings like an Audi A3 TDI not too far away.
Still, we can’t help but wonder if the combination of fallen gas prices and general economic malaise will scupper diesel’s viability in the U.S. just as fuel prices finally move toward cost-per-gallon parity with gasoline. Oh, the humanity.
I could go for a Jetta SportWagen TDI with a stick.I would want a diesel for a work vehicle, or an off-roader or something, sure.I would absolutely NOT want a diesel in anything I would want to be enthusiastic about driving in a sporting manner, not even a family car with sporting intentions.Let me know when diesel engines rev as fast and as high as a gasoline engine. Torque is good, but it isn’t the only thing.

New 2009 Nissan 370Z Car Review Pictures
2009 Nissan 370Z Car is rated at 332 hp and 270 lb-ft of torque, with a six-speed manual transmission, sending power to the rear wheels through a viscous limited-slip differential. An aluminum double-wishbone suspension sits up front, while the rear wheels are kept in check through an independent multi-link setup. Four beautifully-crafted lightweight forged RAYS wheels – some of the most attractive alloy from any OEM – are pushed into each corner. The fronts are wrapped in 245/40-19 tires, with the rears boast meaty 275/35-19 rubber. An extensive use of aluminum throughout has kept weight down to about 3,250 pounds.
I think the crux of it is that for quite some time, the only sport coupes out there that were relatively affordable were the Mustang and Miata. The Camaro and Firebird were gone for six years, the Civic Si is NOT a sport coupe, the Supra and MR2 are dead, and IMO, BMW coupes are priced too high to really compete in this segment.
All the other OEMs saw a market that was DOMINATED by the Miata and Mustang, and, hence, wanted a piece of the action. Chevy brought back the Camaro, Dodge brought back the Challenger, Nissan brought back the Z, Hyundai developed the Genesis, BMW brought the 1-series (though I still think it’s priced too high for this discussion), and now even KIA is trying to bring out a coupe. Hell, Ford might even someday bring back the Cougar with a modified Mustang body.
It’s going to get tight. I do believe, however, that the guys that are into muscle/pony cars are still going to buy Mustangs, Camaros, and Challengers, the boy racers are still going to buy the Z, which will face competition from the Genesis, the Euro-snobs are still going to buy their Bimmers (1 or 3 series), and the mid-life crisis crowd is still going to buy the Miata/MX-5. Fortunately, there is a lot of secondary segmentation within the coupe market segment, so the OEMs should continue along their paths, though with more competition in those sub-segments, the sales leaders (Mustang and Z) are going to see sales slip because of the alternatives.

Nissan GT-R Car tuning package 600 hp Picture
The Nissan GT-R V Spec will allegedly be packing 520 horses when it arrives some time next year. That still won’t be enough for a lot of people (especially folks who want to win seriously competitive drag races), so Hennessey is offering GT-R upgrades that beef Godzilla up to 600 hp.
