2010 Kia cee’d Frankfurt Preview

2010 Kia cee’d will get a new 1.6-liter diesel engine to replace the previous 2.0-liter unit. The diesel mill will be available with either 148 or 187 horsepower and will be mated up with a six-speed manual gearbox. Also on the menu is a new Intelligent Stop and Go ECO-dynamics model that promises excellent fuel efficiency and carbon emissions of just 110 g/km. Kia also claims to have revised the car’s suspension setup, though no further details are provided.

NEW LOOK cee’d AT FRANKURT
Kia’s best-ever selling C-segment car gets a new look at the 2009 Frankfurt Motor Show in September and when the car goes on sale in the UK from October 1 a new ECO-dynamics model will be added to the range.
The cee’d is Kia’s top-selling model in Europe and has been thoroughly re-engineered and restyled under the direction of Chief Design Officer, Peter Schreyer, to feature the latest version of the company’s signature grille – an evolving expression of the brand’s design DNA.
Comprehensively updated, the new Kia cee’d range will deliver a host of customer benefits including numerous exterior and interior design refinements, upgraded standard equipment and technical innovations. The cee’d also gets a fully-revised suspension set-up.
The changes will also significantly reduce fuel consumption and in the new ‘Intelligent Stop and Go’ ECO-dynamics version to be launched for the first time in the UK CO2 emissions are reduced to 110 g/km. On average emissions will be cut by five per cent across the cee’d line-up.
Kia Motors UK Limited Marketing Director, Simon Hetherington said: “The new cee’d is 25 mm longer and is more distinctive in appearance with a stronger road presence. Following our established model range line-up, customers will enjoy a thoroughly revised interior including a new-style steering wheel and gear lever, all-red instrument illumination, a new centre console and new audio systems, plus dual-zone climate control air-conditioning.”
Technical innovations being introduced with new cee’d will include fuel-stretching ISG technology on the 1.6-litre diesel engines for the first time, a “hill-holder” function for the ESP and brighter projection-style headlamps. The new ‘U2′ 1.6-litre diesel engine will be matched to a new six-speed manual transmission.
The ‘new look’ Kia cee’d range, which is backed by the company’s unique 7-Year Warranty, will make its world premiere at 13.00 hrs (CET) on 15 September at Frankfurt’s International Motor Show.

New Kia Borrego FCEV Car rated at 154 hp, the hydrogen fuel cell stack is forty-four percent more powerful than its predecessor, and its 426-mile range is impressive as well.

That monstrous range is thanks in part to the inclusion of a 450-volt supercapacitor, which replaces the typical lithium-ion battery pack. Kia chose the supercapacitor in favor of a battery as it performs better in colder climates, allowing the Borrego FCEV to reportedly start in sub-zero (Farenheight) temperatures.

Kia’s initial performance figures seem fairly impressive for a vehicle this size. The Borrego FCEV has a 0-60 mph time of 12.8 seconds (twice as long as a V-8 model) and can reach a top-end of 100 mph. That’s quite good for a vehicle that weighs 4960 pounds – portly, yes, but Kia managed to keep weight down by using aluminum body panels.

Hydrogen technology still has a ways to go before there’s any real chance that we’ll all be driving fuel cell cars in lieu of electric or fossil fuel-burning machines. Chief among the issues confronting the widespread adoption of hydrogen for automotive use is manufacturing cost, though that obstacle is currently being worked on. According to Byung Ki-Ahn, general manager of Kia’s Mabuk-ri site, “Even if we were producing 50,000 fuel cell cars a year, they would currently have to cost $50,000 each.”

2010 Kia Forte Koup on Thursday unveiled at the New York International Auto Show.The two-door originally debuted as a concept car at last year’s New York show and is now scheduled to go on sale this summer.

2010 Kia Forte Koup base EX model gets Kia’s 2.0-liter inline-4 producing 156 horsepower and 144 lb-ft torque while the SX features a 2.4-liter four-banger with 173 horsepower and 168 lb-ft torque.

2010 Kia Forte transmission options are a standard 5-speed manual or 4-speed automatic on the EX, and a 6-speed manual or 5-speed automatic on the SX.

2010 Kia Forte Koup inside the Forte Koup features standard sport seats, power windows, power door locks, remote keyless entry and cruise control, and a leather package is an option on both models.
